The conference trip

The conference trip will take place on Wednesday, June 22. There will be two excursions organized. The descriptions of both of them are given below. For each of the two excursions the meeting point is in front of the Kompas hotel at 9:50. Departures are at 10:00.

You will receive a special coupon for the conference trip at registration. Please make sure you take it with you to the conference trip.

Each participant has to decide which of the two excursions he/she would like to attend. The choice should be sent to the Bled'11 conference email bled11@upr.si by June 5. Please note that the upper limit for the Idrija excursion is 150 people. Therefore, if you want to take the Idrija excursion, please let us know as soon as possible. Once the limit will be reached, we will not be able to accept reservations for that excursion.

Participants who would like to take their accompanying persons to the conference trip should mention this in their email. The price for accompanying persons is 40 EUR/person and should be paid in cash at the registration desk (Sunday, June 19 or Monday morning, June 20).

The Bled-Bohinj excursion:

We start with a panoramic coach ride around the Bled lake until we reach the Bled castle which celebrates 1000 years from being first mentioned in written documents this year. We have a guided visit of the Bled castle and museum, printing works and a small wine cellar (actually a shop organized as a wine cellar). After the castle visit we continue by coach to the Bohinj lake. Upon arrival we have lunch in one of Bohinj restaurants. After lunch we visit the famous Savica waterfall – the spring of river Sava Bohinjka (from the parking place to the waterfall there is an approx. 20 minutes walk uphill). From Savica waterfall we continue towards the cable car (the cost is 11 to 13 EUR/person depending on the number of people) which will take us to Mt. Vogel (1535m above see level) from where we will enjoy the views of mountains and lake Bohinj (guests who do not want to take the cable car ride will be taken by coach to hotel Zlatorog from where it is possible to reach the lake). As soon as the group returns from Mt. Vogel we will start the return ride to Bled driving through some typical alpine villages of Bohinj upper valley (there will be a photo stop in Studor – famous for hayracks).

Arrival in Bled in the evening (in time for dinner).

In case of extremely bad weather this excursion will be replaced by an excursion to the Postojna caves.

The Škofja Loka-Idrija excursion:

We start with a coach ride from Bled to Škofja Loka where we have a walk through the old part of this medieval town. We proceed to the town of Idrija, know for the famous Idrija lacework and about 500 years of history of mercury mines. We visit the famous Anthony`s shaft that has been preserved and adapted for visits. We have a guided tour of the Idrija (Gewerkeneg) Museum where we learn more about Idrija history and mercury mines and enjoy the exhibition of Idrija laces. The oldest written document mentioning Idrija laces dates back to the year of 1696. Idrija is well known also for some culinary specialities. In one of Idrija restaurants we will have the opportunity to taste some of them. In late afternoon, after all the visits and lunch, we drive back to Bled.

Arrival in Bled in the evening (in time for dinner).

Please note that at most 150 people can attend this excursion. If you would like to attend this excursion you should thus let us know as soon as possible.
